GOLDEN, B.C. – Drivers with their eye on the Trans-Canada through the Rocky Mountains best be ready for a detour.
Highway 1 through the Kicking Horse Canyon will be closed for five days starting on April 11 as the province looks to possibly have the $600 million highway reconstruction wrapped by the end of the year, according to a news release.
The closure will remain until 11:59 p.m. on April 15. Commuters will be routed via highways 93S and 95.
The construction zone will be opened briefly for limited traffic with prearranged permits twice daily, at 1 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The closure is much shorter than that of spring 2022, which lasted for 32 days. In its release, the province writes there will be no closures after April 15 until fall 2023.
