REGINA – The City of Regina has begun a three-year infrastructure project to expand the city’s water network to accommodate future growth.
The project will involve construction of a new water pumping station with a solar system for renewable energy generation, two new water storage reservoirs and an 8.4 kilometre water supply main, a City of Regina release stated.
Construction will take place in phases, starting with the water pumping station and reservoirs at 2605 Redbear Ave. E.
The new pumping station and reservoirs will allow the city’s water network to accommodate a population of up to 310,000 people, and the new facilities will be expandable in the future to accommodate growth up to a population of 500,000 people.
Investment in the project includes $107.6 million for the pumping station and reservoirs and a to-be-determined price for the water supply main after tenders are closed.
According to the city’s timeline, construction of the water pumping station and reservoirs will span from 2023 to 2026, as will water supply main construction along Ring Road from Pasqua Street North to Ross Avenue.
Water supply main construction alongside Fleet Street from Redbear Avenue to Emmet Hall Road and along the North Storm Channel from Fleet Street to Ring Road will take place from 2023 to 2024.
