Canada, Saskatchewan fund bridge and culvert upgrades across province

REGINA, SASK. – The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan, along with municipalities, are putting more than $8.2 million in funding to replace or upgrade bridges and culverts across the province.

The 12 projects were announced by federal Minister of Northern Affairs, PrairiesCan and CanNor Dan Vandal and Saskatchewan Minister of Government Relations Don McMorris.

The federal government is investing $1.37 million through the Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and Saskatchewan is investing $2.75 million while municipalities are contributing a combined $4.13 million to their respective projects.

Culvert projects include replacing the existing culvert installation at the Rural Municipality of Victory No. 226 and a new culvert at Rural Municipality of Wolseley No. 155 and the Rural Municipality of Frenchman Butte No. 501.

A new culvert structure over a creek will be installed at Rural Municipality of Enniskillen No. 3, and at Rural Municipality of Canwood No. 494 an existing 18.3-metre treated timber bridge will be replaced with new culvert installations. Similar replacements will occur at Rural Municipality of Meota No. 468 and Rural Municipality of Pinto Creek No. 75.

A new bridge to replace the existing 36-metre concrete on timber bridge will be built at Rural Municipality of Lomond No. 37 and at Rural Municipality of Val Marie No. 17 a new bridge will replace the existing 25.6-metre steel truss bridge. Replacement of the existing 18.3-metre treated timber bridge through the construction of a new bridge will occur at Rural Municipality of Star City No. 428.
