Manitoba invests $1.45 million in Brokenhead bridge replacement

BROKENHEAD, MAN. – The Manitoba government is providing up to $1.45 million for replacement of the Green Bay Bridge in the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead.

The bridge is at the end of its life cycle, a provincial government release said.

“The new Green Bay Bridge will be built to handle more traffic, including more heavy-vehicle traffic, as the rural municipality grows. This is an important improvement that will help grow the economy, create jobs, and make it easier for people to get around,” Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Ian Bushie said.

“Infrastructure plays an important role in our local economy and ensures that local producers can move their equipment and products safely, and that local residents get greater access to the goods and services they need to help their families thrive. Replacing the Green Bay Bridge will help the RM accomplish both those objectives,” RM of Brokenhead reeve Brad Saluk added.

The expected life cycle of the new bridge is 50 years, Bushie said, and it will have improved hydraulic capacity meaning it can handle increased traffic and heavier loads.
