A female plumbing apprentice from Duncan, B.C. has been awarded $86,000 in damages after a British Columbia Supreme Court decision where the judge found she had been sexually assaulted by her supervisor while she apprenticed at Baker Industries in 2005.

A female plumbing apprentice from Duncan, B.C. has been awarded $86,000 in damages after a British Columbia Supreme Court decision where the judge found she had been sexually assaulted by her supervisor while she apprenticed at Baker Industries in 2005.

The civil case ruling stated that Joy Cornfield was sexually assaulted by her supervisor, Phil Shaw, nine times in six months.

No criminal charges were pressed against Shaw due to the matter being a civil case ruling.

Shaw has been ordered to pay $60,000 for non-pecuniary loss (pain and suffering), S22,500 for loss of past income, $3,000 for the cost of future care and $1,273 for special damages, for a total of $86,773.
