Manitoba seeks input on wage increase and apprenticeship structure

WINNIPEG, MAN. — The Government of Manitoba wants industry feedback on wages and the structure for apprentices.

Many apprentices in Manitoba earn a percentage of the provincial minimum wage and the province is planning on raising minimum wage to $15 per hour by October 2023, states a news release.

As a result, the government has released a survey at https://engagemb.ca for stakeholder groups including employers, journeypersons, union/labour representatives, association representatives, apprentices and sector committee members.

“The feedback gathered will help to ensure apprentices earn a wage that is appropriate to their skilled trades program and that employers who train them can continue to do so sustainably,” said Sarah Guillemard, advanced education and training minister, in the release.

The survey closes on March 17.
