An Alberta construction worker is in the hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a piece of heavy machinery on the worksite.

“A packer operator ran over a worker, who was cleaning out his truck,” said Chris Chodan, spokesperson with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.

The 27-year-old man from Grande Prairie was cleaning his truck on July 19 at a work site in Clairmont, Alberta.

He saw a roller coming at him and tried to jump into the pickup truck to escape the impact. He was hit by two of the front four tires of the packer, which is a piece of heavy equipment used to pack the ground before tar is applied.

“The worker is in hospital with serious injuries,” Chodan said.

The man worked for Wapiti Gravel. The RCMP are investigating.
