A crane appears to have fallen on a container ship at the Port of Vancouver after it collided with the dock.
According to a statement by Global Container Terminals (GCT), “a vessel came into contact with a GCT Vanterm ship-to-shore crane, resulting in damage” around 4 a.m. on Monday. GCT noted that no one was injured and that authorities had been notified.
“While we continue to assess the situation, an exclusion zone has been set up to ensure the safety of all those at the terminal and for any operational impacts,” reads the statement.
The ship appears to be the Ever Summit, a 300-metre-long container ship currently sailing under the Panama flag.
The Port of Vancouver is Canada’s largest port.
In 2017, 142 million tonnes of cargo moved through the port, valued at $200 billion.
The JOC will continue following this story as it develops.
