RICHMOND, B.C. — WorkSafeBC has reappointed six members to its board of directors.
The board is intended to act as a steward of WorkSafeBC and the workers’ compensation system. It is responsible for approving WorkSafeBC’s compensation, rehabilitation and assessment policies and occupational health and safety regulations. Board members can only have a continuous term of six years, as prescribed by the Workers Compensation Act.
The returning directors include:
- Baltej Dhillon, professional in the area of law or law enforcement, is reappointed as a director
- Andrea Laurie, worker representative, is reappointed as a director
- Lee Loftus, public interest representative, is reappointed as a director
- Katherine Teschke, public interest representative, is reappointed as a director
- Rebecca Packer, professional providing health-care or rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities, is reappointed as a director
Effective Dec. 31, 2021:
- Donald Smith, actuary, is reappointed as a director
The Workers Compensation Act sets out requirements that aim to make the board of directors balanced and representative of the public interest as well as the interest of B.C.’s employers and workers. The legislation mandates that the board include professionals from a variety of relevant fields, including occupational health and safety, law enforcement and an actuary.
