VIA Rail’s train station in Vancouver is set to receive upgrades, with the federal government and VIA investing $5.1 million for the project.
The project will include renovations to the station’s masonry, roof and windows, with the aim of preserving features that mark the building as a heritage site.
Designs and specifications have been submitted to Parks Canada for review.
VIA will issue a tender and said it intends to award the contract by the end of the year.
The majority of the funding for the project will come from the federal stimulus program.
