An industrial crane operator was killed on January 18th, 2011 when his crane slid off the northbound lanes of Highway 63 going down Beacon Hill in Fort McMurray, Alberta, according to the Wood Buffalo RCMP.

The RCMP ascertained that the operator was unable to maintain control of the crane due to poor road conditions. Speed was not a factor. The crane slid from the left lane across the right lane of Highway 63 and over an embankment. The lone male driver was taken to Northern Light Regional Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
