ELLISDON/KINETIC CONSTRUCTION — EllisDon and Kinetic Construction are providing construction management services for a $135 million housing and dining facility consisting of two buildings at the University of Victoria. Pre-construction of the project is underway with substantial completion of one building expected by July 2022 and the other by July 2024.

VICTORIA — EllisDon and Kinetic Construction have been chosen to provide construction management services for a new $135 million housing and dining facility at the University of Victoria (UVIC).

Two sites, named Phase 1 – Ring Road and Phase 2 – Cadboro Commons, have been selected for new buildings intended to house approximately 780 student beds as well as academic and social programming, a dining hall and an extension of the campus “Grand Promenade” between the two buildings.

A variety of room types are being considered, such as traditional dorm rooms, “pod” style living with single rooms and shared kitchen and living areas, with special attention being paid to students with a wide range of physical abilities.

“EllisDon and Kinetic are proud to be a part of this exciting project working with the University of Victoria,” said EllisDon vice-president of pre-construction Daniel Murphy in a statement.

“The New Student Housing and Dining Facility is the first significant capital project since the Campus Plan was renewed in 2016. This project is important, not only serving as a benchmark for future growth, but because it supports the commitments to environmental stewardship and sustainability that are so widely shared in our community and our culture.”

EllisDon and Kinetic Construction have previously worked together as EDK on several large-scale projects in Victoria including the Hillside Shopping Centre redevelopment, and are currently working on the fleet maintenance facility at CFB Esquimalt.

“Kinetic and EllisDon are extremely excited to be the chosen construction partners of UVIC to provide this landmark project. This marks a new era for the UVIC campus as they move forward with the largest project they have undertaken. It is gratifying as a local company to help build and strengthen such a hallmark University which also adds great value to the community at large,” said Kinetic Construction president and CEO Tom Plumb.

“We look forward to working again as EDK on a project which represents our third joint venture together by building on the great success of the past two. Our shared values and culture along with cutting edge processes and technology will lead to a truly value based delivery for the university.”

Pre-construction of the project is underway with substantial completion of Phase 1 expected by July 2022 and of Phase 2 by July 2024.
