WeWork to open new space in Station Square
ANTHEM PROPERTIES - A rendering shows what the Station Square development in Burnaby, B.C. will look like. Co-working company WeWork announced it will be one of the projects major commercial tenants.

BURNABY, B.C. — WeWork, a co-working and office space company, will soon have a new location in the heart of Burnaby, B.C.’s Metrotown neighbourhood.

The site, expected to open this September, will be the company’s first co-working office outside the city of Vancouver. The company’s first location is in Three Bentall Centre in downtown Vancouver.

It also has an office centre in another tower within Bentall Centre, in Grant Thornton Place at 333 Seymour St. across from Waterfront Station, and in the Marine Gateway office tower in South Vancouver.

According to WeWork, the new site will be in Anthem Properties and Beedie Living’s Station Square redevelopment at 6060 Silver Ave. where it will take up two floors. This will make it one of the project’s largest commercial tenants.

Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood will also see a location open this year at Westbank’s new Main Alley tech campus on Main Street. The company intends to grow to seven locations by the end of the year.

WeWork anticipates it will serve roughly 3,500 members in Vancouver in 2019. Internationally the company now boasts 425 locations in 100 cities within 27 countries.

According to WeWork, its workspaces are 250 per cent more efficient than a typical office, which frees up floor area for other uses such as new businesses and jobs.

Station Square includes five towers reaching up to 37 storeys high and providing 1,800 residential units. The development will also feature 450,000 square feet of retail and office space. The project is nearing the completion of its second phase with the other two under construction. The final phase is set to finish in 2021.
