LETHBRIDGE, ALTA. — Seniors in Lethbridge will soon have more housing thanks to a $12-million project announced by the city and Province of Alberta.
The 64-unit development will serve mixed-income seniors with 32 units with rent set at 20 per cent below market rates and the other 32 at market rental rates.
The city will receive assistance from Alberta and Canada who will contribute about $3.4 million through the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement. The province plans to work with the city, the Lethbridge Housing Authority and other contributors to finance the remainder of the project.
“As part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan, we are investing in projects just like this to create jobs right now and build what we need for the future,” Josephine Pon, minister of seniors and housing, said in a statement. “It is critical that we work closely with the city and housing providers to understand local housing needs and move forward with developments like this one. A public-private partnership approach will ensure a more cost-effective approach for Albertans.”
