HPC supports Edmonton housing project
HPC Housing Investment Corporation yesterday announced that it closed a $40 million social bond offering as part of its new Construction Lending Program, providing financing for an affordable housing project in Edmonton. The beneficiary of the funding is Capital Region Housing‘s Londonderry mixed-use redevelopment project located in central Edmonton. The redevelopment will replace the existing 80 units with 240 new units in a variety of configurations.
Law firm studies global rise of dispute boards
Lexology today posted an article written by New York-based law firm White and Case on the rise of dispute resolution boards to deal with international construction projects. “Sources indicate a trend towards the increased use of dispute boards internationally, with various examples of high-profile, large-scale projects, including the Hong Kong Airport,” writes the firm. “As such, parties involved in Belt and Road Initiative projects could consider the advantages of dispute boards.”
Study highlights possible economic benefits of new nuclear
A Conference Board of Canada study that was released today states building Small Modular Reactors (SMR) in Ontario and Saskatchewan would create jobs, increase provincial revenues and help ensure the necessary supply of zero-emissions, non-intermittent and cost-competitive energy. A New Power: Economic Impacts of Small Modular Nuclear Reactors in Electricity Grids studied the impacts of deploying SMRs in Ontario and Saskatchewan from 2021 onwards.
