EDMONTON—Re/Max Field in Edmonton just got a high-tech upgrade.
The field has replaced its artificial grass surface with a baseball specific, synthetic turf system installed by GTR Turf. The Canadian firm specializes in realistic synthetic turf and is the exclusive distributor of Shaw Sports Turf in Canada.
In 2021, The Re/Max Field chose Select Engineering Consultants to design and select the best baseball playing surface in the market. The firm worked with Baseball Edmonton, medical experts and the Edmonton Oilers on the project.
The B1K baseball synthetic turf product was chosen based on the impressive performance, safety and durability results of this system.
Each area of the field is meant to have different playability characteristics. The B1K system is comprised of four different turf types that are tailored to mimic the performance of the warning track, the clay/plate, the mound, the infield and the outfield.
Affording to Re/Max field officials, the technology developed by Shaw is designed to provide a consistent playing surface and benefits to the players on the field while enhancing the fan experience throughout the ballpark.
