PNE - The Pacific National Exhibition in east Vancouver has purchased a new $9 million roller coaster which uses electro-magnetic propulsion.

VANCOUVER – A new $9 million roller-coaster, touted as the fastest launch coaster in Canada, is coming to Vancouver’s Playland.

The new ride will be the single biggest one-attraction investment in Playland’s history, which is part of the Pacific National Exhibition.

The coaster is designed and built by Italy-based company Antonio Zamperla S.p.A., one of the largest ride and attraction manufacturers in the world.

The ride will have a track length of 1,247 feet and a maximum height of 59 feet.

Playland is touting the coaster as the fastest launch in Canada with a launch acceleration of 1.3 G.

The ride is a linear synchronous motor coaster, or LSM.

An LSM uses electro-magnetic propulsion to launch a coaster at high speeds.

“Despite the financial effects of the COVID pandemic, the PNE has displayed its resiliency and innovation by not only surviving the pandemic, but by pivoting our business throughout it to emerge in a place to invest in this spectacular ride,” said PNE president and Chief Executive Officer Shelley Frost in a news release.
