VANCOUVER — A collection of organizations from the forestry sector have contributed $2.5 million towards the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
The funds came through BCIT’s INSPIRE Campaign, the largest fundraising campaign in the institute’s history, and will go towards the new Trades and Technology Complex, a news release states.
The complex will include spaces for integrated learning and facilitate inter-collaboration.
Canfor, West Fraser, Tolko, Hampton Lumber, Mosaic Forest Management, Paper Excellence and the Binational Softwood Lumber Council came together to make the investment.
“We look forward to providing support through scholarships and bursaries to remove barriers for those traditionally underrepresented in trades,” said Ray Ferris, chief executive officer of West Fraser Mills in the release.
The complex’s capital value is roughly $220 million.
