EDMONTON — Residents in the community of Blatchford in the city of Edmonton just gained some bragging rights.
Blatchford was named the Best New Community in Canada by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association at the National Awards for Housing Excellence.
The community was recognized for its developer and homebuilder members for creating an attractive, exciting, innovative and environmentally responsible community, states a news release.
Blatchford applied for the award on the merits of its unique design that prioritizes connected streets, vibrant public spaces, renewable energy and active modes of transportation.
The Blatchford community is approximately 536 acres and is on Edmonton’s former City Centre Airport lands. It is slated to be one of the world’s biggest sustainable mixed-use communities that will house nearly 30,000 residents.
