ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The City of Abbotsford is going to be home to a new 200-bed long-term care home.
The Government of British Columbia has announced a $211 million investment into the new home through Fraser Health, who will build and operate the facility.
Procurement is currently active and construction is expected to begin in 2025 and finish in 2027, reads a news release.
It will be built on a vacant parcel of land next to the Maplewood House long-term care home and the Abbotsford Hospital and Cancer Centre at 1919 Jackson St.
The home will contain community spaces and services for families, residents, visitors and staff, art and activity rooms, a hair salon, sacred space and a 32-space adult day program. A standalone child day care facility with a capacity for 49 children will also be built.
Ross Siemens, mayor of Abbotsford, said the investment is needed as the city’s population ages.
“This new long-term care facility and the additional long-term care beds will have a significant and lasting impact for many Abbotsford residents, by providing a compassionate and supportive environment for those who require specialized care and assistance in their daily lives,” Siemens said in the release.
“The City of Abbotsford is grateful.”
