Port Coquitlam unveils design concept for Gates Park fieldhouse
CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM — The City of Port Coquitlam has revealed plans for a new, multifunctional fieldhouse in Gates Park. The project is slated to cost $15 million.

PORT COQUITLAM, B.C.— The City of Port Coquitlam has revealed its plans for a new, multifunctional fieldhouse in Gates Park.

The project, totalling $15 million, encompasses a new fieldhouse, a FIFA-standard synthetic turf field and various community-centric facilities. A significant portion of the funding, approximately $9 million, comes from provincial coffers.

The remaining financial commitment is a joint undertaking between B.C. Soccer, PoCo Soccer and the City of Port Coquitlam, with the city allocating funds from its accumulated surplus.

The city is slated to issue an RFP in early 2024, with construction starting soon after a contractor is selected. If all goes according to plan, PoCo soccer fans can expect the Gates Park Fieldhouse to open in 2025, a release reads.

Mayor Brad West expressed enthusiasm about the project’s integration into the community in a statement: “The proposed design fits very well into Gates Park, recognizing the natural setting and other community activities that take place there, and provides enhanced pedestrian trail connection, as well as additional parking.”

The fieldhouse will have locker rooms, an atrium for gatherings and seating accommodating around 1,200 spectators.

The city will provide updates throughout every stage of the project, emphasizing the planning will consider potential environmental impacts and community feedback.
