CALGARY, ALTA. — Kensington Plaza, located in the heart of Hillhurst/Sunnyside and the Kensington Business District, has unveiled a series of enhancements aimed at rejuvenating the popular public space. Collaborating with the Kensington Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ), the city has introduced new sculptural benches, healthier trees, more bike racks, and improved surfacing.
According to a release, the plaza now features better lighting, utility upgrades and designated areas for temporary installations such as fire pits and movable furniture.
This initiative is part of the Established Area Growth and Change Strategy program, which aims to support communities and local businesses in rapidly evolving areas.
The design focus was on augmenting the plaza as a destination, incorporating amenities that align with community preferences and support the existing activities and programming.
