Winnipeg heritage projects to receive preservation awards

Winnipeg heritage projects to receive preservation awards

WINNIPEG  – Heritage Winnipeg has announced the 28th annual preservation awards will be presented April 17.

Winners will be announced at a free public event in the historic Millenium Centre on Winnipeg’s Main Street. The awards are presented in three categories: the Heritage Conservation Award, Distinguished Service Award and Youth Award.

“I am thrilled to have so many exciting and distinct heritage building projects nominated this year, involving enthusiastic individuals and community groups. It is indicative of the dedication and passion Winnipeggers have for our built heritage,” Heritage Winnipeg executive director Cindy Tugwell said in a statement.

Nominations can be made by anyone and judging is undertaken by a committee of heritage professionals, according to the Heritage Winnipeg site.

Heritage Winnipeg has held the awards since 1985 and has honoured over 140 buildings and over 65 individuals, a release said.
