More than 100 solar panels stolen from Manitoba jobsite

WINNIPEG — A Manitoba solar company is on the hunt for 116 solar panels that were taken from a jobsite.

According to Solar Manitoba, four pallets of Hansol 345W 72 cell solar panels were stolen on Oct. 14 at Deacon’s Corner east of Winnipeg. Crews discovered empty boxes where thieves had cut out the panels.

A media release by the company stated while the thieves clearly knew what they were doing, they left all the stolen panel’s  (panels) serial numbers.

The panels are also rare for the province.

They have been flagged as stolen and the City of Winnipeg’s inspectors have been notified, which would make hooking them up to the electrical grid difficult.

Solar Manitoba advised residents to be wary of installers trying to sell or install these types of panels and encouraged them to check the brand.

Sycamore Energy is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Sycamore Energy operates under the name Solar Manitoba. It is one of the largest solar companies in the province. The company stated that the panels are covered by insurance but the project will likely be set back several weeks.
