SQUAMISH, B.C. — Nexii Building Solutions Inc. has become the first construction manufacturing company in North America to achieve Total Resource Use and Efficiency (TRUE) Gold Certification for Zero Waste thanks to its Squamish manufacturing plant, a news release states.
More than 90 per cent of the plant’s waste has been diverted from landfills.
True Certification is administered by Green Business Certification Inc. It looks at recycling and composting programs, waste reduction, material use reduction and landfill waste diversion. Nexii used Light House to consult on TRUE credit documentation and submission.
“Businesses must go beyond our current wasteful practices and think critically about how to redesign processes so that less waste is produced in the first place,” said Peter Templeton, president and CEO of U.S Green Building Council, in the release.
“Implementing zero waste business practices requires rethinking, retraining, new tools and strong leadership to change current waste systems. With Nexii’s leadership in this endeavour, they are making great strides for their employees, community and consumers at large.”
