Alberta emission-neutral info exchange launches

EDMONTON – The Alberta Ecotrust Foundation has launched the Emissions Neutral Buildings Information Exchange (ENBIX) for construction and renovation professionals in the province.

The initiative’s goal is to “accelerate the transition to an emissions-neutral built environment for new and existing buildings,” an ENBIX release stated, with financial support from Alberta Ecotrust in the form of a $600,000 contribution from the organizations’ Climate Innovation Fund.

“We have heard from industry leaders the need to build better for commercial and environmental reasons, and to prepare for the adoption of higher tiers of building code in Alberta,” Alberta Ecotrust director of emissions-neutral buildings Andrea Linsky said in a statement. “ENBIX is here to work with industry to advance more affordable emissions-neutral buildings, by sharing information, fostering innovation and strengthening collaboration.”

ENBIX’s services will include an events calendar, resources such as case studies and reports, training, communities of practice and an industry research question exchange.

The City of Edmonton has contributed $1.7 million to ENBIX and the City of Calgary has contributed $1.4 million. The two cities are the initiative’s main funders.

Alberta Ecotrust, an environmental charity, is a founding member of the Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3) network, which supports cities and communities in reaching their carbon emissions reduction potential. LC3 is part of a national investment in municipal climate action to accelerate urban climate solutions and to help achieve Canada’s climate goal of net-zero by 2050 and is implemented in partnership between seven local centres and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
