This week on TCR Express digital media editor Warren Frey and Journal of Commerce staff writer Russell Hixson look at some of the stories Russell is covering this week, including the development of the səmiq̓ʷəʔelə lands, an area of land located in Coquitlam, B.C. which is being managed by BC Housing along with the Kwikwetlem First Nation. Russell looks into some of the history of the area including its use as one of the first botanical gardens in B.C. and as a popular site for filming. Russell is also working on a story about research on pandemic-resilient hospitals and what hospitals will look like in future.
Daily Commercial News staff writer Don Wall also covered Infrastructure Ontario’s market update on major projects, along with a project by Fengate Asset Management along with LIUNA to develop a 16-acre community above Toronto’s rail corridor between Bathurst St. and Blue Jays Way in Toronto. Don’s also working on an upcoming story about Export Development Canada and their latest economic forecasts, which see ramped up growth expectations with recent infrastructure announcements from the U.S. government.
Daily Commercial News staff writer Angela Gismondi is also working on a story from a recent Skills Ontario webinar where speaker and author Julie Sawchuk explains the disconnect between those designing accessible structures and the people actually using them. Angela also has a story about a Canadian Automobile Association study that says Canadians are paying $3 billion every year in higher vehicle operating costs due to poor road infrastructure, and later this week she’ll be attending a webinar on vaccination in the workplace hosted by the Ontario Road Builders Association and the Ontario General Contractors Association.
