This week on TCR Express Journal of Commerce, digital media editor Warren Frey talks to Journal of Commerce staff writer Russell Hixson about some of the top construction stories in western Canada including the fact that B.C. is implementing a compulsory trades certification system. The province is now in line with other provinces but the move is already meeting opposition from the open shop sector of the construction industry. Russell’s also working on a story about a recent Calgary Construction Association report about construction costs and supply chain issues. The Alberta market has seen rising costs in supply, logistics and general difficulties in getting needed materials to the worksite.
Daily Commercial News staff writer Don Wall gives us an update on a webinar he recently attended at the 2021 Land and Development Conference about the future of offices given the impact of COVID-19 and the shifting landscape of work as more employees continue to work from home. Staff writer Angela Gismondi also gave an update about a recent Building Industry and Land Development Association report about proposed inclusionary zoning policies from the City of Toronto.
Angela also has an upcoming story about an upcoming virtual panel discussion on June 22 from One Ontario about housing affordability and the widening gap between inventory and demand. Information about the panel is available on the One Ontario site along with information about the panelists.
