On this episode of the Construction Record Podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey and Journal of Commerce staff writer Evan Saunders bring several interviews from the Day of Mourning ceremony held at downtown Vancouver’s Jack Poole Plaza on April 28.
Warren spoke with BC Federation of Labour president Sussanne Skidmore about the continued importance of the Day of Mourning ceremonies, which are held across British Columbia and the rest of Canada to raise awareness of the importance of workplace safety and the ongoing tragedy of worker deaths and injury. He also spoke with WorkSafeBC senior manager of prevention services Suzana Prpic.
Evan spoke with Rob Ashton, the president of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada (ILWU) who stressed the need for stronger enforcement measures and penalties when companies are found to be at fault for workplace fatalities or injuries.
