On this episode of The Construction Record Podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with Daily Commercial News staff writers Don Wall and Angela Gismondi and Journal of Commerce staff writer Evan Saunders about their reporting on the 2023 federal budget released March 28 by deputy prime minister and minister of finance Chrystia Freeland.
Don spoke with both Canada’s Building Trades Unions executive director Sean Strickland who had a substantially positive view about the budget and with Canadian Construction Association president Mary Van Buren who listed several concerns regarding the budget’s lack of focus on the construction industry and infrastructure.
Angela spoke with Residential Construction Council of Ontario president Richard Lyall, who was disappointed with the lack of substantial measures in the budget to address the affordable housing crisis and Evan looked for a western Canadian perspective with both Electrical Contractors Association of BC president Matt MacInnis and Manitoba Heavy Construction Association president and CEO Chris Lorenc.
