TORONTO — The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) has announced the appointment of engineering technologist and long-time OACETT supporter Greg Miller as its president.
A media statement said Miller’s priorities will be to lead the association’s strategic efforts in certification practices, succession planning and membership growth, retention and education for the next two years.
Another focus will be the promotion of the C.E.T. (certified engineering technologist) and C.Tech. (certified technician) designations to millennials, the statement said.
"As boomers retire and more millennials enter the workforce, OACETT must adapt and innovate to maintain our relevance as the certifying body for engineering and applied science technicians and technologists in Ontario," said Miller.
"This means as we move forward, we’re going to increase our digital presence and maximize our social networking, building our connection with aspiring young professionals."
Miller has created a young-professional task force to explore the millennial generation’s outlooks and preferences relating to their professional association.
Miller has served on OACETT’s council for nine years and has been a volunteer since 1999.
He is the former vice-president of the Institute of Engineering Technology of Ontario, the certification and standards arm of the association, and is now a voting member on Technology Professional Canada’s Leadership Committee.
Miller is a graduate of Georgian College’s civil engineering technology municipal program and is the chief building official for the Town of The Blue Mountains, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the town’s Ontario Building Code program, and has over 18 years of experience in municipal building regulation and enforcement.
