Fredericton International Airport receives funding for expansion

FREDERICTON — The Fredericton International Airport will receive $18 million in federal and provincial funding for major renovations and an expansion.

The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are each contributing $9 million, through the New Building Canada Fund, Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component — National and Regional Projects. The Fredericton International Airport Authority is contributing the remainder of the costs.

According to a release issued by Infrastructure Canada, the project consists of the installation of additional ticket counters, a modernized security screening area, larger arrival and waiting areas and updated heating and cooling systems.

“As an export-driven economy, it is important we invest in our logistical infrastructure so New Brunswick businesses can get their products and services to markets around the world,” said Brian Gallant, premier of New Brunswick, in a statement.
