Over $5.1 million in funds announced for community infrastructure in the Yukon

WHITEHORSE — The Government of Canada has invested more than $5.1 million to upgrade and renovate 24 public spaces in the Yukon over the last two years through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150).

Because these investments addressed shared community infrastructure needs, communities, organizations, First Nations and the Government of Yukon contributed additional funding of over $6.3 million to the projects, states a release issued by the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor).

The CIP 150 support for these projects, delivered through CanNor, was provided as part of the Government of Canada’s celebration of the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The program concluded March 31.

“The CIP 150 investments in the Yukon have made community infrastructure such as historical sites, camping grounds and nature trails more welcoming for residents as well as for travellers exploring this beautiful part of Canada,” stated Bardish Chagger, leader of the government in the House of Commons and minister of small business and tourism, in a statement.

“Tourism is a strong economic driver from coast to coast to coast, including in the Yukon, and these projects will only further strengthen this industry, creating good middle-class jobs.”
