Atlas Growers cannabis production facilities continue to expand

EDMONTON — With the commissioning of their first medical cannabis production facility in Lac Saint Anne County, Alta., Atlas Growers Ltd. is now preparing to move ahead with plans to build a new facility near the Millard Nature Park off of Island Highway South in Courtenay, B.C.

The proposed 100,000-square-foot indoor facility, which will be built on a five-acre parcel of land secured by Coastline Canada Inc., is expected to have an estimated production capacity of nearly 40,000 kilograms per year, says Clint Weir, founder of Atlas Growers Ltd.

In July, Atlas Growers Ltd. announced an acquisition agreement with Coastline Canada Inc. to acquire 50 per cent equity in the company. In exchange, Atlas will grant Coastline access to its intellectual property, consisting of expertise with the LP process, indoor cultivation, securing of sales channels and engineering designs, plans and experience related to the construction of Atlas’ first facility, said a press release.

While Edmonton-based Scott Builders, who are building Atlas’ first facility in Alberta, are assisting to bring this project to the construction ready stage, according to Weir, Atlas is considering local contractors for construction of the facility in Courtenay.

With an estimated cost of about $25 million, construction of the project could get underway by late fall, subject to building permit approvals and completion of financing for the project.
Atlas also has plans to expand their Lac Saint Anne site to include up to 12 million square feet of production capacity in the future.

In another press release issued recently, Atlas Growers Ltd. also announced a new partnership with the University of Alberta to explore process development for cannabis waste management and develop sustainable waste disposal and bioenergy production – referred to as the Cannabis Waste Project. The two organizations will partner on the Cannabis Waste Project via Alberta Innovate’s Climate Change Innovation and Technology Framework, under the Clean Technology Development program.
