SAULT STE. MARIE, ONT. — The federal government has announced an $11.8-million allocation for PUC Distribution Inc.’s smart grid project in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
Funding for the project comes from the federal Smart Grid Program, said a Feb. 11 announcement.
PUC, the local power distribution utility, has formed a private-public financing partnership that will use the federal funding to improve the Sault Ste. Marie electric network system.
The release said the project would create 140 jobs.
“Once it is complete, the smart grid will make our energy infrastructure more reliable, reduce energy loss and lead to a more innovative economy for our community,” said Sault Ste. Marie Mayor Christian Provenzano in the statement.
