Funding announced for new library in Vaudreuil-Dorion

VAUDREUIL-DORION, QUE. — Funding for a new library near Vaudreuil Station in Quebec was recently announced by the governments of Canada and Quebec and the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

The project consists of constructing a 3,000-square-metre new building including a social area, reception and service space, work areas, a section for youth, a creative laboratory and administration offices.

The three levels of government will each invest more than $2.4 million, bringing the total government and municipal investment to more than $7.3 million.

Financial support comes from the New Building Canada Fund, Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component—Small Communities Fund, a federal-provincial program co-ordinated by Infrastructure Canada in partnership with the provinces and territories. In Quebec, the fund is administered by the Quebec Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

The goal of this program is to provide financial support to Canadian municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents to develop infrastructure that enhances their cultural, sports, recreational and tourism assets or safeguards public assets, indicates a release issued by Infrastructure Canada.

“Today’s announcement confirms the construction of a new, more spacious library that will provide a more exciting living environment for our citizens and services tailored to all generations,” said Guy Pilon, mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion in a statement. “It will be a state-of-the-art library — one of the most modern in western Monteregie.”
