BURNSIDE, N.S. — The federal government has announced an investment of up to $86.5 million to build the Sackville-Bedford-Burnside Connector in Halifax to ease traffic, reduce congestion and make it easier to get around the Greater Halifax area.
The Sackville-Bedford-Burnside Connector will provide a link between Bedford and Burnside by extending Highway 107, build a high-speed bypass, and connect Highways 101, 102, and 118. The project, expected to be complete by September 2023, is anticipated to create 150 jobs in the region during construction.
The investment is provided through the New Building Canada Fund’s Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component — National and Regional Projects. In addition to the Government of Canada funding, the Province of Nova Scotia is providing up to $107 million in funding and the Halifax Regional Municipality is providing the rest.
“The new Sackville-Bedford-Burnside Connector Highway will more directly connect Burnside Park and surrounding communities with our major provincial highway network,” said Lloyd Hines, minister of transportation and infrastructure renewal for Nova Scotia, in a statement. “This will result in improved safety, reduced travel times and the more efficient movement of people and goods through the provincial highway system.”
