KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower project in Kamloops B.C. has been named the 2018 North American Social Infrastructure Deal of the Year.
The $288-million project is being built solely by EllisDon under a design-build-finance-maintain model and reached financial close late last year.

The project received the award this month at the Infrastructure Journal Global Awards in New York City. The awards celebrate the best-in-class transactions to have closed over the past calendar year across the international infrastructure and energy sectors, while recognizing the organizations that play central roles in these deals.
The award selection process includes working rigorously with industry experts to find the best delivered deals, explains the release.
The Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower project is a two-phased project that consists of a new, nine-storey patient care tower as well as significant renovations to the existing emergency department, pediatrics, postanesthetic recovery unit and morgue.
The 27,000-square-metre facility will be built on the existing hospital campus. EllisDon is aiming to achieve LEED Gold certification.
Early work began last September during the preferred proponent stage, with full construction activities commencing after the financial close in November. Construction is scheduled for completion by early 2022 and renovations by 2024.
In April 2019, EllisDon Facilities Services will commence facilities maintenance and life cycle responsibilities for the existing hospital campus and the new patient care tower, once complete, for a 30-year term.
