CASE—The CASE DV26D comes standard with dual amplitudes and dual frequencies, including the ability to adjust between high and low frequencies, allowing operators to dial the machine in to meet the compaction needs of the job.

The World of Asphalt Show attracts more than 450 manufacturers and service providers in the aggregate, asphalt, pavement maintenance and traffic safety industry sectors.

The show is co-located with the AGG1 Aggregates Academy and Expo, which is the aggregate industry’s leading exposition and educational resource for the World of Asphalt Show. The 2019 edition of the show took place in Indianapolis, Ind. in February.

At the show, numerous equipment manufacturers and technology companies displayed modern solutions for equipment users in these industries.

John Deere

John Deere showcased their mastless motor grader. Originally announced in August 2018, it was the main attraction at the John Deere booth.

By moving the Topcon grade control system from the masts of the machine to other parts of the machine, contractors don’t have to daily install blade-mounted sensors and components, thereby reducing setup time. Also, the new concealed position of the grade control system reduces theft. Position sensing allows for the following functions: blade pitch, circle side-shift and circle rotate to be completed while staying on grade.

“An industry-first, we are excited to offer the mastless Topcon 3D integrated grade control as a factory option on new G-Series motor grader machines and field kit for equipment already on the job. Fully incorporated into the machine’s structures and software, the system delivers precise grading performance,” says Luke Kurth, motor graders product marketing manager for John Deere Construction and Forestry.

Case Construction Equipment

Case Construction Equipment displayed a new series of small-frame vibratory rollers. They are available in either double drum or combination (front drum with rear pneumatic tires) configurations. A high curb clearance, no overhangs and a narrow drum width of 37 inches, makes these machines well suited to rolling walkways, residential driveways, bike paths, tennis courts, small parking lots and other small- to mid-size compaction applications, states the company.

“While these rollers are notable for their smaller size and ease of access, they offer contractors many of the same performance features expected from much larger double drum compactors,” says Nathaniel Waldschmidt, a product marketing manager of compaction with Case Construction Equipment.

For example, the DV Series rollers are compatible with the Case ACE Force Intelligent compaction system, a technology designed to improve compaction quality, while reducing the number of passes needed to complete the job.

Roadtec

Roadtec featured their RX-700e/ex milling machine and SB-2500e/ex Shuttle Buggy material transfer vehicle (MTV).

The RX-700e/ex is a heavy-duty machine with an 800-hp (563 kW) Caterpillar engine and a strong frame composed of A656 Grade 80 steel. This grade of steel has twice the strength of the mild steel that is commonly used, claims the company.

The machine is available in either three- or four-track configurations and features a 60-degree conveyor swing for truck loading in an adjacent lane or around a tight bend and an optional folding secondary conveyor for aid in transport and loading.

Through a combination of grade and slope sensors, Roadtec’s ACE system automates the elevation of the machine and allows the operator or ground crew to easily make changes to the machine’s grade and slope parameters.

McCloskey

McCloskey displayed their new tracked radial stacker — the ST80T Radial — that allows operators to switch from track to wheel in minutes.

“The tracked radial stackers feature a unique patented counterweight that counter balances the tracks and wheels, situated behind the stacker’s centre of gravity. The design delivers a much higher stockpile capacity, with the radial wheels set well back,” says Julie Andras, global marketing and communications with the company. “The rear counterweight also firmly anchors the pivot point delivering greater stability to the stacker while in operation.”

Telsmith

The Telsmith 3244 primary jaw portable plant is designed for consistent, reliable production, and low mobilization costs, says the manufacturer. Part of the Telsmith line of Hydra-Jaw crushers, the 3244, offers throughput capacities from 175 to 530 tons per hour and can be used alone or configured with other mobile plants.

Hydra-Jaw crushers come equipped with Telsmith’s toggle tensioning system, which eliminates the need to adjust springs when changing the setting.

The core of the Telsmith hydraulic toggle system is the robust Hydra-Jaw hydraulic cylinder. A custom-built hydraulic cylinder designed specifically for the crushing environment is at the core of the toggle tensioning system; it incorporates a large piston for high crushing forces and a large rod for both stability and strength.

Epiroc

Epiroc displayed a drum cutter, the HB 2500 hydraulic breaker and the HB 5800 hydraulic breaker.

The Epiroc drum cutter is an excavator attachment that is ideal for rock or concrete wall and surface profiling, trenching, frozen soil excavation, soft rock excavation in quarries, demolition and dredging, and features an optional dust suppression system to help meet silica dust regulations.

Epiroc’s HB 2500 breaker has a carrier weight class of 27 to 46 tons and includes the new patented Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which automatically adjusts the start-up and shutdown behaviour, as well as, the impact rate and impact energy during operation.

The HB 5800 is suitable for carriers from 58 to 100 tons and also includes the IPS.

Both the HB 2500 and HB 5800 breakers are highly adapted for primary blast-free rock excavation and secondary rock breaking on construction sites and in quarries, surface and underground mines, as well as primary demolition of massive reinforced concrete structures.
