TORONTO—Reich+Petch Architects has established a new award that will be presented to one student each year over the next five years from George Brown College’s Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies’ School of Architectural Studies.

Tony Reich, principal architect of the firm, announced the Reich+Petch Award for Design Excellence and Innovation following a lecture at the college’s Casa Loma campus in Toronto recently. The first of these awards will be granted to a student in the 2019/20 academic year.

To be eligible for this award, registered full-time students must be in their second or third year of the Architectural Technology program at George Brown College, indicates a release, adding candidates must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have demonstrated tangible aspects of design excellence in innovation in their schoolwork and/or extra-curricular projects.

Following the lecture and cheque presentation, the Reich+Petch group opened its newly-created exhibit on the main floor of the Casa Loma Campus which boasts photos, project boards, models and other pieces of Reich+Petch’s past projects.

“We hope that this scholarship and Award for Design Excellence and Innovation will promote design and original thinking at the school, with the students at an important stage in their studies,” said Reich in a statement.

“We are so honoured to share the innovative work done by Reich+Petch with our students. Their new scholarship award coupled with the visual influence of their exhibit at the Casa Loma Campus will inspire students to be creative, think outside of the box and strive to be the best they can be each and every day,” said Dr. Cindy Gouveia, president of the George Brown College Foundation.
