GANDER, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Healthcare Partners has been selected as the preferred consortium to design, build, finance and maintain the Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor Care Homes project.
The NL Healthcare team, selected by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, is comprised of Fengate Asset Management (developer); Pomerleau (design-build contractor); Architecture49, G architects, Gibbons Snow Architects (designer); and WSP Canada, Malcolm Pinto Engineering and Jewer Bailey Consultants (engineering).
Construction on both projects will begin in 2019 and are projected to generate more than 343 person-years of employment and $39 million in economic activity in the province, indicates a release issued by Pomerleau.
The project comprises two facilities, one in Gander and one in Grand Falls-Windsor, that will each provide 60 long-term care beds.
The Gander facility will be designed and constructed with the potential for future expansion of approximately 105 additional beds. The measures are expected to address pressures on the long-term care system in the province and improve access to bed placement, adds the release.
The contract cost will be announced publicly following financial close which is expected in Q2 2019.
“We look forward to a long and productive partnership with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to build, operate and maintain these long-term care facilities for the province and its citizens,” said George Theodoropoulos, managing partner, Fengate, in a statement.
