TORONTO — Purolator has announced plans for a new $330-million, 430,000-square-foot national super hub to be built in Toronto, part of a five-year, $1-billion investment plan that will see other centres developed across Canada.
The new national hub will be set on 60 acres and is set to open in 2021, stated a June 25 release. The facility will triple capacity, incorporate significant automation and be developed to ensure scalability and flexibility. The project will be built to Toronto Green Standards. Other elements of the growth strategy include job creation and training, fleet upgrades with the purchase of 1,000 new vehicles, and a new consumer access strategy including a Mobile Quick Stop service permitting last-mile retail pickup and delivery.
Purolator also intends to open a $8.5-million, 110,000-square-foot terminal in Toronto’s North York region in September. Additional regional expansions will be announced over the next year.
