SNC-Lavalin expands in Port Elgin to better support Bruce Power
SNC-LAVALIN — The official ribbon cutting for the new SNC-Lavalin office in Port Elgin, Ont. took place recently. A larger office was required to support the Bruce Power Life Extension Program. The new 12,000 square foot facility will replace the old facility, which the company opened two years ago and outgrew. The new office will have 30 employees but will be able to accommodate up to 75.

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — SNC-Lavalin recently moved to a larger 12,000 square foot facility in Port, Elgin, Ont. to accommodate its expanding workforce to support the Bruce Power Life Extension Program.

The previous office, which was smaller and quickly outgrown, opened almost two years ago with a capacity for 12 employees. The new office, located at 281 Goderich St., currently has 30 employees and has the capacity for 75.

Services offered at the new office include design engineering, performing engineering change control process work, performing walkdowns, emergent work, integrated work with Bruce Power on technical solutions and project management.

From October 2016 to May 2019, SNC-Lavalin was awarded approximately $350 million in contracts by Bruce Power under a previously announced Master Service Agreement, indicates a SNC-Lavalin release issued July 17.

The eight Bruce Power CANDU units produce over 30 per cent of Ontario’s electricity at 30 per cent less than the average cost to generate residential power, states the release, adding the Life Extension Program will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064.

“It’s exciting to see SNC-Lavalin expanding its presence in Saugeen Shores as we look forward to Major Component Replacement getting underway in January 2020,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s president and CEO, in a statement.
