Sinopec sets record with largest hoisting job

Sinopec sets record with largest hoisting job
SINOPEC — Installation of a 3,025-ton hydrogenation reactor took 15 hours on June 10 in Zhoushan, China.

ZHOUSHAN, CHINA — China’s Sinopec, the China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, recently announced it has successfully installed the world’s largest ever slurry-bed residue hydrogenation reactor, setting a Chinese record for the highest hoisting weight by a single piece of equipment.

Installation of the 3,025-ton reactor took 15 hours on June 10 in Zhoushan, China. The reactor, which enables chemical reactions between compounds and hydrogen, has a height of 72 metres, corresponding to a 26-storey building, noted a release.

The reactor’s outside diameter is 6.156 metres and has a wall thickness of 320 millimetres. It’s the core equipment of Zhejiang Petroleum and Chemical’s 40-million-ton-per-year phase two chemical refining integration project.

The record-breaking installation used a 5,200-ton slidable hydraulic gantry lifting system for the main hoisting task, and a 2,000-ton XGC28000 crawler crane co-ordinated the lift from the other end.

The lifting system will now be relocated to prepare for the lifting and installation of a second hydrogenation reactor, and it will complete six more similar hoisting jobs in the coming months.
