OTTAWA — The federal government has announced it is allocating just over $2.4 million towards the construction of energy-efficient residential buildings in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
The funding will support a project led by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association that will enable seven homebuilders to construct net-zero-energy and net-zero-energy-ready residences, stated a June 24 release. The project is looking to demonstrate that it is possible to construct net-zero-energy-ready housing with reduced cost and construction time, the statement said. The funding is provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Green Infrastructure program.
“More energy-efficient homes means less emissions in our atmosphere and more money in the pockets of Canadians,” said federal Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan in the statement.
