New chief administrative officer named for Region of Peel

BRAMPTON, ONT. — The Region of Peel, Ont. has hired Janice Baker as its next chief administrative officer (CAO).

Baker brings over 30 years of municipal experience to the role.

She will be transitioning to the role on Oct. 19. After starting her career in the private sector, Baker discovered local government in 1987, found her passion and since then, she has spent her career helping to build communities, indicates a release.

She held senior roles at both the City of St. John’s, N.L. and the City of Oshawa, before joining the City of Mississauga in May 1999 as commissioner of corporate services and treasurer.

In 2005, she was promoted to become Mississauga’s city manager and CAO.

“On behalf of regional council, I welcome Janice to the regional team. She is an experienced and innovative leader, who has worked passionately in the community for many years,” said Nando Iannicca, Peel regional chair and CEO, in a statement. “Janice is a leader who will support us on delivering our strategic vision of a Community for Life.

“At the same time, we thank Nancy Polsinelli for her dedication and leadership as interim CAO through what has been the most challenging of times during the COVID-19 response and while the recruitment was underway,” added Iannicca.
