WINNIPEG — The City of Winnipeg is inviting the public to provide input on a new Transit Master Plan.
The heart of the plan is a “comprehensive network that connects different types of transit service to meet different needs and demand,” a release from the city stated.
Input is sought on the types of rapid transit infrastructure that could be built, plans for how the transit system will connect the downtown area and details of how transit can be made accessible for all ages and abilities.
An online survey is open until Nov. 6 and Winnipeggers are also invited to take part in Zoom meetings that will include a live presentation and Q&A sessions.
The master plan is available at winnipeg.ca/masterplan where the public can also register to participate in Zoom sessions.
According to the City of Winnipeg’s Transit Plan page, the plan is a “25-year vision for our transit system and identify the steps we need to take to get there. It will be a long-term, system-wide plan that will cover all aspects of the public transit system – Transit, Rapid Transit, and Transit Plus (formerly Handi-Transit) service and infrastructure.”
The plan also identifies a need for a transfer point at Portage and Main, one of Winnipeg’s main intersections, and the proposed network design includes seven primary networks that travel through Portage and Main along with a transit station at Portage and Main. The station will be the subject of a further study that will also include public engagement and technical analysis.
