Kootenay River Bridge completed ahead of schedule
The Kootenay River Bridge project near Creston, B.C. has reached completion almost a year ahead of schedule. The $6-million project was the first substantial rehabilitation of the two-span arch truss bridge since it was built in 1961. Work involved replacing pier bearings and deck joints, sandblasting and repainting heavily corroded steel areas.
PC Urban announces two Vancouver industrial strata projects
PC Urban has acquired a 2.2 acre industrial site in South Vancouver and plans to deliver 83,000 sf of light industrial units that come equipped with grade loading and built-in mezzanines. The company has submitted a development permit application to the City of Vancouver. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2022.
Government of Canada announces support for Edmonton rapid housing
The federal government has announced support for a $17.3 million Rapid Housing Initiative allocation for Edmonton. the City of Edmonton, in partnership with Homeward Trust, will build 80 new units of supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness. at two developments located in the King Edward Park and Wellington neighbourhoods and will use off-site modular construction techniques with completion by the end of 2021.
City of Winnipeg strikes advisory committee to decide fate of Hudson’s Bay building
The City of Winnipeg has created the Bay Downtown Advisory Committee, which will advise on opportunities for the future use of the Hudson’s Bay Company’s historic downtown location at 450 Portage Avenue. The committee will consider possible uses including residential, mixed use, commercial use, educational, cultural, social and public service options and will advise optimal use of the building and plans which emphasizing long-term sustainability and economic viability of the site.
