TORONTO — Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development has updated the scope of positive COVID-19 infections at The Well multi-use project in Toronto.
From Dec. 27, 2020 until Jan. 30, the ministry received 12 occupational illness notifications related to the project and it was reported that 68 workers tested positive for COVID-19.
The project is located on the west side of Spadina Avenue north of Front Street. There are multiple contractors on the site.
Both EllisDon and Delterra reported positive tests on their projects. EllisDon said in a statement last week that all workers who came into close contact with the positive cases were required to self-isolate and the builder released a list of protocols it was taking to prevent further outbreaks.
EllisDon said approximately 400 people were tested on Jan. 26 and another 200 on Jan. 28.
The ministry noted that employers advised by a worker that an illness has occurred as a result of their work, or that a claim has been filed with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, are required to provide notice of the positive test to the ministry, the workplace’s joint health and safety committee and any unions involved.
