PCL unveils site resource app 

PCL Construction has unveiled a new app called Job Site Resourcing (JSR), developed to help manage job site resources. The program will be integrated within PCL’s Job Site Insights platform to track details of delivery and movement of materials to jobsites, monitoring elevators, staging and unloading areas, and material handling equipment like cranes and hoists. Contractors and subtrades will be able to access the JSR mobile application on iOS or Android devices. 

 

New-home prices surge in Ottawa, Kitchener-Waterloo  

The Statistics Canada New Housing Price Index for January released today reports that new-home prices rose at their fastest pace since October, increasing 0.7 per cent nationally in the month. New house prices were up in 22 of the 27 census metropolitan areas surveyed and were unchanged in five CMAs. Ottawa, with prices up 15.3, once again led the increase in newhouse prices, with prices also surging in Kitchener–Cambridge–Waterloo (up 13 per cent) and Hamilton (up 11.2 per cent). 

 

Feds outline Sustainable Development strategy 

The federal government yesterday announced $11.3 million in funding to 32 organizations as part of the government’s efforts to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. A statement said a “whole-of-society approach” will be taken to achieve the SDGs through the government’s new strategy, titled Moving Forward Together – Canada’s 2030 Agenda National Strategy. 

 

Toronto housing starts up year over year 

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has released its Monthly Housing Starts report for January, reporting an increase of 16 per cent in housing starts in the month in Toronto compared to January 2020. In the single-detached segment, the city saw a decrease of 17 per cent year over year, while all other housing types witnessed a 22 per cent increase.
